I remember a few years back, I also had to do something similar but due to the producer's direction, I did an acoustic guitar piece using guitar samples from my collection and I just played it using a keyboard. This time, I was informed ahead of time so I was able to bring my acoustic guitar and do the music for the set of ads.  There's always something with recorded music against my usual arrangements using Reason where I go with MIDI most of the time. I can always re-edit, change or move things around because it's all MIDI data whereas with audio, I'd have to be as accurate as I can be since I don't have that much liberty when it comes to editing it compared to something I programmed via MIDI. I've experienced playing with hardware synths and I've had a few come and go in my collection over the years. Unfortunately, I had to let go because they really didn't get any use from me (lucky are the ones who bought from me hehe) Seriously. I really didn't get to use any of my hardware synths that much. Let's see... I've had a Roland JD800 which was huge as a beast and heavy as a truck but it looked awesome in the studio with all the sliders. I also had a Korg MS2000 which I think got the most use since I took it out for live performances back in the day. I remember having a rack synth too! I also sold it though but it was my first Novation (A station) and I was pretty excited about it when I got it coz Novation wasn't available yet locally at that time. Last time at Opus, I brought in more tech/house tunes but as requested, they asked for my remixes set for Palladium and I mixed it up last night just having fun with the remixes I did playing it live. I enjoy it because at the end of the day, I still play my interpretations of the tunes and in the style that I want. I did a lot of breaks last night and I loved it. I even had one guy telling me after the set that he heard some BT influence in my set... and there really was! It's quite informal in the sense that the environment is very casual. I'd like to think it's like when we were kids and we had to have some "summer lessons" on a particular skill or instrument. So for what I'm doing, I'd like to think it's a summer thing for learning :) Aside from meeting new people and gaining new friends, which is one of the best things in doing this, I just find it nice that since I tailor my tutorials to the students' needs and requirements, I learn a LOT in the process as well and I then tend to dig back to things I've also set aside when it comes to genre specific stuff.  Some students of mine enrolled to learn more on songwriting, some for recording a band, some for dance music, some for chillout, and just recently, my new student is in to learn dubstep.  It's a fun thing to do and it really keeps me on my toes. I didn't really give it that much thought because of course I didn't want her to go but also because I've always known her to be a very strong woman. Even at 77 she could run :) But it crossed my mind still and I was thinking how painful it might be should that day come or how much I'll be crying if she passes. I didn't know that the day would come way sooner than I expected. Miss Leonila Camasura aka "nanay" was my yaya/nanny since birth. Both my parents were employed so we were left with her day in and day out when my folks would be out at work. She's from Davao and came to take care of me when she was in her 40s. She used to work as a saleslady then she started working as a nanny to some foreign families and she finally spent a long time with the Schott's, who were American missionaries. Time flies.  I'm just glad though that I finally found my rhythm again and have found myself inside the studio more often the past week and getting more work and tunes done.  Since Olivia's birth last December, I hardly had any time to actually work on personal projects. It was more on "work" music and all my tracks have been put on hold. I'm just glad that this past week, I was able to work on my album once again and I'm very positive for a May release... I promise :) So what have I been doing then? Well, I've been going over the mixdown of each of the tracks on the album. This takes long since I really comb thru the entire track checking each second if it sounds right. It's quite a repetitive process in a sense that you keep on listening to the same tune over and over again but it's something that's needed. Unfortunately, it's not as high quality on the audio like the ones I shared recently coz I didn't plug the line in direct :/ but it's still quite clear.  A little background on the gig... the concept was to have a setup like your usual street musician so I had a table, a mini component, my gear, and my CD box acted like a tip box complete with "tips appreciated" hehe So the whole set people just watched or pass by to check out of curiosity. So from time to time, you'll hear voices from me answering people or even trying to look for change from people buying my CDs for sale. There really was no pressure to build up as if I was playing in a club. All I had to do was have fun fooling around and I got to expose my craft to people in BHS. I'm gauging a release date for an album and as much as I'd want to have the physical released the same time as with the digital version, I still don't have enough cash to shell out for the production of the physical CD so I was thinking of just releasing the digital version first then the physical will follow like after a month? I hope I could keep this up though. Anyway, here are updated photos of the studio. It's not yet done and a wee bit far from it but it's progressing nicely. Fortunately, I'm relying on God now to provide for the costs since it went WAAAAY over budget so at this point, it's all faith! If you look at the photos, the studio's taken shape already and at this point, my favorite is the shelves haha I've been trying to think of where to put stuff already to clear up the space all my studio gear have been taking up inside the house while waiting for the studio to finish. At this point, it's still structural. But my acoustics consultant/contractor came by this afternoon to check up on things and to discuss some details. He dropped off samples of the materials he'll be using. Pretty excited.
